Article 6. Sınıf Türkçe Dersinde Yaratıcı Yazma Yaklaşımının Öğrencilerin Yazmaya Yönelik Tutumlarına ve Yazma Becerilerine Etkisi(T.C. Mardin Artuklu University / Mardin Artuklu ÜniversitesiBu araştırma, 6. sınıf Türkçe dersinde yaratıcı yazma yaklaşımının öğrencilerin yazmaya yönelik tutumlarına ve yazma becerilerine etkisini tespit etmek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırma 2021-2022 eğitim-öğretim yılı 2. Dönem içerisinde Mardin ili Artuklu ilçesine bağlı bir ortaokulun 6. Sınıfında okuyan 20 öğrenciyle yürütülmüştür. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak yarı deneysel yöntemle tek grup ön test/son test modeli uygulanmıştır. Etkinlikler haftada iki saat olmak üzere 8 hafta boyunca toplam 16 saat uygulanmıştır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak deneysel işlem öncesinde ve sonrasında yazmaya yönelik tutum ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Deneysel çalışma boyunca yaratıcı yazma etkinlik yaprakları kullanılmıştır. Veri toplama araçları çalışma grubunda ön test ve son test olarak uygulanmıştır. Çalışma kapsamında nicel verilerin analizinde SPSS 22.0 istatistik paket programı kullanılmıştır. Araştırma boyunca uygulanan yaratıcı yazma çalışmaları, betimsel analiz yöntemiyle analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmada şu sonuçlara ulaşılmıştır: • Yaratıcı yazma çalışmalarının neticesinde elde edilen son test puanları ön test puanlarına göre yüksek çıkmıştır. Çalışma grubunun ön test ve son test puanları eşleştirilmiş t-testi analizi uygulanarak karşılaştırılmış ve ön test ve son test puanları arasında anlamlı bir farklılık olduğu bulunmuştur. Since December 2020, COVID-19 vaccines have been extensively administered in numerous countries. In addition to new antiviral medications, the treatment regimen encompasses symptom management. Despite sustained research efforts, the outbreak remains uncontrolled, with affected patients still lacking proper treatment. This review is a valuable asset for researchers and practitioners aiming to delve into the yet unexplored potential of Anatolian flora in the fight against COVID-19 and other viral infections. Numerous medicinal plants in Anatolia, such as thyme, sage, cannabis, oregano, licorice root, and Origanum sp., contain bioactive compounds with proven antiviral properties that have been used in the region for centuries. Data (n:600) was gathered from domestic visitors visiting Gaziantep in March, April to May 2018. Scale development to measure gastronomy experiences and scale adaptation process of destination brand equity were carried out. The relationships among the variables were examined with structural equation modeling. According to the findings, except H5 and H8, all hypotheses are significant in the research model. At the end of the study, significant theoretical and managerial implications were provided for the tourism providers and destination marketers, and managers.Article Antifungal Activity of Endophytic Bacillus Spp. Bacteria and Its Effect on Root and Coleoptile Length During Germination Period(Centenary University, 2025) Güney, İnci GülerIn this study, endophytic bacteria were isolated from roots and crowns of rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.), olive (Olea europaea L.), and loquat (Eriobotrya japonica L.) plant samples. The morphological and physiological properties of nine isolated endophytic bacteria were determined. All isolates were identified as Gram-positive, oxidase-positive and catalase-positive. Amylase, cellulase, and carbohydrate tests gave positive results. Antagonistic activities of the isolates against fungal pathogens varied between 85.7% and 52.9% against Fusarium culmorum and between 86.0% and 65.1% against Neoscytalidium dimidiatum. BMBA2 isolate gave the best results both in Petri dish antagonistic activity and in wheat seed germination in terms of root length and coleoptile length. BMBA2 isolates gave the best results with a coleoptile length of 7.58 cm and root length of 8.33 cm. In wheat seeds treated with F. culmorum and bacteria, the BMBA2 isolate gave the best result with a coleoptile length of 6.98 and a root length of 7.30 cm. For the identification of bacteria, in vitro BiBA1 and ND3BA were determined as Bacillus amyloliquefaciens subsp. plantarum; BiBA2 and YDBA as Bacillus subtilis; NDBA, ND2BA, BMBA1, BMBA2, and BMBA3 as Bacillus mojavensis. Since this is the first study to use endophytic Bacillus mojavensis as a biological agent against F. culmorum and N. dimidiatum pathogens, the results obtained from this study are thought to be important and promising in terms of application.Article Citation - Scopus: 3An Application To Error and Uncertainty Analysis in Industrial Type Dryer Experiments(Murat Yakar, 2021) Akan, A.E.; Ünal, F.; 17.05. Mardin Artuklu University / Mardin Artuklu ÜniversitesiIn this study, information is given about the driers commonly used in the industry and the experimental errors and uncertainties that will be encountered in the experiments using these driers are tried to be explained by using the data obtained from the experiments carried out in an 8 chambers hot oil heated stenter, which is a conveyor type convection dryer. The fabric used in the experiments is the Thessaloniki type fabric, containing 67% cotton and 37% polyester. The experiments were carried out at a drying air temperature of 160 ºC and a fabric advance rate of 23 m/h (0.383 m/s). Thus, the example of error analysis in such experimental studies is provided and criteria that may cause an error for drying systems are discussed. As a result of the uncertainty analysis, the largest uncertainty in the system occurred in temperature measurements at ±0.367-±0.568 ºC values and the error rate for the whole system was found to be 4.08%. CevatProblem Statement: The success of creating a constructivist learning environment is directly related to teachers' management abilities and therefore scales that evaluate those skills are essential to the process. Given the importance of this subject, the development of scales that address all aspects of the constructivist learning environment should be an assessment priority. Purpose of the Study: The purpose of this study is to develop a scale that will determine elementary and high school teachers' management skills within the constructivist learning environment. Methods: The study was conducted on three different study groups composed of teachers working in elementary and high schools located in the city center of Sanliurfa, Turkey. The groups were determined by the random sampling method. A draft scale composed of 47 items was compiled for use in this study. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was applied to evaluate the factor structure of the scale. Item analysis was used to evaluate the consistency of each item within the entire scale and the distinctive quality of each item. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was applied to assess whether the factors obtained as a result of EFA were confirmed or not. The reliability of the scale was calculated by Cronbach's alpha coefficient for internal consistency and test-retest methods. Findings and Results: As a result of EFA, a six-factored structure composed of 33 items, which have factor load values of .49 and above was finalized. Item analysis affirmed that each item was consistent with the entire scaleand the distinctive powers of the items were at an acceptable level. CFA indicated that the fit indexes had values significantly above acceptable values, which confirmed the 6-factored structure. The scale's internal consistency coefficient, which was .95, indicated high reliability. Conclusions and Recommendations: The study results showed that this scale was an appropriate instrument to evaluate teachers' management skills within the constructivist learning environment in elementary and high schools in Turkey. A version of this scale for students can be developed to collect more detailed information about the constructivist learning environment management skills of teachers.Article Citation - WoS: 1Effects of Ketamine on Penile Tissues in an Experimental Priapism Model in Rats(Turkish Assoc Trauma Emergency Surgery, 2024) Gevrek, Fikret; Fırat, Fatih; Unsal, Velid; Tapar, Hakan; Karaman, Tugba; Karaman, Serkan; Yalçın, KenanBACKGROUND: This study aimed to evaluate the histopathological and biochemical effects of ketamine on penile tissues following ischemia-reperfusion injury induced by priapism. METHODS: Twenty-four male rats were randomized into three groups. Group 1 served as the control group. Group 2 underwent the priapism model to induce ischemia-reperfusion injury. Group 3, the treatment group, experienced a similar ischemia-reperfusion model as Group 2; additionally, 50 mg/kg of ketamine was administered intraperitoneally just before reperfusion. Blood biochemical analyses and penile histopathological evaluations were performed. RESULTS: In Group 3, significant improvements were observed in all histopathological scores, including desquamation, edema, inflammation, and vasocongestion compared to Group 2 (p<0.001). Blood biochemical analyses showed that the malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were recorded as 10 in Group 2, with a significant decrease in Group 3 (p=0.013). Similarly, proinflammatory cytokine levels, including interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), were found to be suppressed in Group 3 compared to Group 2 (p=0.003, p=0.022, and p=0.028, respectively). Antioxidant enzyme activities, such as glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and superoxide dismutase (SOD), were higher in Group 3 compared to Group 2 (p=0.016 and p=0.024, respec- tively). CONCLUSION: Ketamine is an effective anesthetic agent in alleviating the effects of penile ischemia-reperfusion injury.Article Citation - WoS: 3Citation - Scopus: 3Energy Consumption of Defrosting Process in No-Frost Refrigerators(Yildiz Technical Univ, 2018) Ozkan, D. B.; Unal, F.Refrigerators have high energy consumption because they consume energy throughout the day, and they are used in all residences and in most offices. Designing more efficient models and, thus, decreasing the energy consumption of refrigerators have become necessary, owing to the global energy scarcity. The purpose of this study was to decrease energy consumption and increase the efficiency of the defrosting process in no-frost refrigerators. The defrosting process plays an important role in the energy consumption of no-frost refrigerators. The amount of energy needed for defrosting and the time it takes are important factors for manufacturers in terms of energy performance. Recently, a theoretical correlation was developed as a function of the frost thickness, heat flux, and frost density for estimating the defrosting time of an evaporator fin surface. The melting time of the frost on the fin was calculated by a mathematical model and compared to results that were obtained experimentally. Mardin Artuklu University / Mardin Artuklu ÜniversitesiBACKGROUND: This study investigates the protective effects of etomidate against oxidative damage in an experimental model of ovarian ischemia-reperfusion injury. METHODS: A total of 24 female rats were randomized into three groups. Group 1 served as the control. Group 2 underwent an ovarian torsion/detorsion procedure. Group 3 underwent similar procedures as Group 2; additionally, 4 mg/kg of etomidate was administered intraperitoneally 30 minutes before ovarian detorsion. Blood samples were analyzed for lipid peroxidation, pro-inflamma- tory cytokine levels, and antioxidant enzyme activity.Furthermore, histopathological scoring was performed to evaluate tissue damage in the ovaries. RESULTS: Biochemical analysis of blood samples revealed reductions in pro-inflammatory cytokines, including interleukin-1 Beta (IL- 1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), in Group 3 compared to Group 2 (p=0.005, p=0.016, and p<0.001, respectively). Additionally, a decrease in malondialdehyde (MDA) levels was observed in Group 3 compared to Group 2 (p<0.001). In contrast, activities of antioxidant enzymes, including superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX), were signifi- cantly increased in Group 3 compared to Group 2 (p=0.031 and p=0.001, respectively). Furthermore, Group 3 demonstrated notable reductions in histopathological scores for follicular degeneration, vascular occlusion, bleeding, and inflammation compared to Group 2 (p<0.001, p<0.001, p<0.001, and p=0.001, respectively). CONCLUSION: Etomidate alleviates ischemia-reperfusion injury in a rat ovarian torsion-detorsion model by improving both histo- pathological and biochemical outcomes.Article Evaluation of the Therapeutic Effects of Thymbra Spicata L. var spicata and Cyclotrichium Origanifolium in Spinal Cord Injury: An Experimental Study(Duzce Univ, Fac Medicine, 2025) Koc Direk, Figen; Tuncer, Mehmet Cudi; Deveci, Engin; Aygun Kesim, Dilek; Ozevren, HuseyinAim: Secondary tissue damage caused by oxidative stress and inflammation in spinal cord injury complicates treatment and highlights the need for novel therapeutic agents. This study aimed to evaluate the potential effects of Thymbra spicata L. var. spicata (zahter) and Cyclotrichium origanifolium (mountain mint) extracts in an experimental SCI model. Material and Methods: Thirty-six male Wistar albino rats were randomly assigned to six groups: control, zahter, mountain mint, trauma, trauma+zahter, and trauma+mountain mint. Spinal cord injury was induced in the trauma groups. Blood was collected via cardiac puncture, and spinal tissues were obtained for histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses. Serum MDA, TAS, Aand TOS levels were measured biochemically. VEGF and GFAP expressions were assessed immunohistochemically. Results: MDA and TOS levels decreased, while TAS levels increased in the treated groups compared to the trauma group, but these changes were not found statistically significant. Histopathological evaluation showed prominent neuronal degeneration, inflammation, and vascular dilatation in the trauma group, which were alleviated in the treatment groups. Greater histological improvement was observed in the trauma+mountain mint group compared to trauma+zahter (p<0.001). VEGF and GFAP expressions were elevated in the trauma group but statistically significantly reduced in the treatment groups (p<0.001). Conclusion: Zahter and mountain mint extracts exhibited therapeutic potential against trauma-induced spinal cord injury by modulating inflammation and tissue damage. Mountain mint was found to be more effective in terms of histological and immunohistochemical outcomes.Article High Level of Fluctuating Asymmetry in the Byzantine Dogs From the Theodosius Harbor, Istanbul, Turkey(2021) Siddiq, Abu B.; Onar, Vedat; Parés Casanova, Pere M.; Öncü, Ögül Emre; Kar, HakanAbstract: Asymmetry, the abnormality of an organism or a part of it from its perfect symmetry, is represented by three different categories: fluctuating asymmetry, directional asymmetry, and antisymmetry. Fluctuating asymmetry attributes to random developmental variation of a morphological character, whereas directional asymmetry attributes one of the body sides to be more prominent than the other. Antisymmetry appears whenever one body side of a biological body shows greater morphological appearance than the other. Since more environmental stress often produces greater effect of fluctuating asymmetry, it can be a good indicator of physiological stress in the morphological characteristic of a biological being. Applying, so far, the first geometric morphometric methods on any Byzantine fauna, this study aimed to determine the kind and direction of skull asymmetry occurred in Byzantine dog skulls. Aiming this, asymmetries in 16 adult Byzantine dog skulls unearthed form Yenikapı-Marmaray excavation (ancient Theodosius Harbor) in İstanbul, were compared with 39 adult skulls of modern pet dog breeds. Seventeen landmarks (3 midline and 14 bilateral) were selected on the digital pictures of the ventral aspect of each skull, and used for detailed analysis. The results showed a greater percentage of fluctuating asymmetry in the Byzantine dog skulls, suggesting them not to be the remains of pets or housed dogs but perhaps the labor or stray dogs in the Byzantine capital Constantinople.Key words: Byzantine dog, geometric morphometrics, fluctuating asymmetry, Theodosius Harbor, Canis familiaris, Yenikapı-Marmaray excavation, İstanbulArticle Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Impact of Tumor Resection Volume on Visual Outcomes and the Need for Secondary Surgery Following Transsphenoidal Surgery in Suprasellar Extended Non-Functionial Pituitary Adenomas(Turkish Neurosurgical Society, 2024) Batur, Abdussamet; Bozkurt, Mustafa Alper; Gezer, Burak; Karabagli, Hakan; Koktekır, Ender; Sahinoglu, Mert; Gündoğdu, Derya KaraoğluAIM: To investigate the surgical outcomes in patients with nonfunctional pituitary adenomas (NFPAs) exhibiting visual field defects (VFDs) in order to ascertain the impact of the volume of adenoma excised during surgery on recurrence rates and improvements in VFDs. MATERIAL and METHODS: From a cohort of 150 individuals diagnosed with NFPAs and exhibiting suprasellar extensions accompanied by VFDs, we selected 114 patients who fulfilled the inclusion criteria for further analysis after a comprehensive retrospective review. All selected patients underwent pituitary magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations, and volumetric measurements were conducted on T1 contrast sequences using the Syngo.via software. Measurements were derived from MRI scans taken 24 h preoperatively, 24 h postoperatively, at 3 months, and at the end of the first year postsurgery. Volumetric values were compared between patients who underwent subsequent surgeries due to recurrence and those who did not. Similarly, the variables were evaluated in patients experiencing an improvement in VFD, those whose VFD remained stable, and those experiencing a deterioration in VFD. RESULTS: The recurrence rate was 19.3%. Among patients who underwent a second surgery due to recurrence, the presurgical adenoma volume, the adenoma volume removed based on the 24-h postoperative MRI, and the volumes recorded in the 3-month and 1-year postoperative imaging were significantly greater than those in patients who did not require a second surgery. Remarkable improvements were identified in 84.2% of patients with VFD complaints and 62.5% of those with visual acuity complaints. CONCLUSION: Adenoma volume measurements exerted a significant impact on recovery from VFDs and the need for a second surgery. Although the choice of surgical methodology does not definitively affect outcomes, an in-depth evaluation of variations in adenoma volume can provide valuable prognostic insights.Article Citation - Scopus: 2Investigating the Historical Building Materials With Spectroscopic and Geophysical Methods: a Case Study of Mardin Castle(Murat Yakar, 2023) Karataş, L.; 17.06. Mardin Artuklu University / Mardin Artuklu ÜniversitesiToday, the building materials form the historical buildings are being exposed to various deteriorations increasingly due to different causes. Many historical masonry constructions in the world are on the edge of extinction due to the increasing frequency and changing models of material deterioration. The materials as close as possible to the original materials in terms of their chemical compositions and physical properties are required in the reconstruction and maintenance of the buildings that have historical importance. In addition, the properties of the materials used in the historical buildings are generally not known with a sufficient accuracy. This causes misapplications in case of emergencies, and also may lead to future potential greater damages on the building. The lack of data regarding the engineering properties of these buildings causes long-term damages on the buildings due to inappropriate conservation methods and materials. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the properties of certain materials for application in the renewal of the historical buildings. Within this context, in this study the construction materials of Mardin Castle, which is located in Mardin Province, Turkey and existing for centuries as the symbol of the city, are investigated and its properties are reached. Experimental research methods were used in the study. Primarily, the castle structure was examined on-site by field study and sampling was carried out from the areas determined. The samples were analyzed via various spectroscopic and geophysical methods, and various findings were achieved. Relatively variable and high levels of salinization were determined in the findings regarding the average values in stone samples of Mardin Castle’s Fortification Walls. Results of the research document the conservation status regarding Mardin Castle and provide an experimental base and also a theoretical support for the conservation of historical buildings in Turkey; and present indicative suggestions to establish conservation schemes of the historical buildings. © Author(s) 2023.Article Investigation of Anti-Neutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody by Indirect Immunofluorescence Assay in COVID-19 Patients(Galenos Publ House, 2025) Ayaydin, Zeynep; Ozcan, Nida; Mermutluoglu, Cigdem; Atmaca, Selahattin; Tekin, Ali CemAim: Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) has been suggested to trigger the production of autoimmune antibodies and contribute to the development of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis. This study aims to investigate the presence of ANCA among COVID-19 patients. Methods: This cross-sectional, prospective analysis included 200 COVID-19 patients with positive polymerase chain reaction test results for severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 and no history of autoimmune disease, recruited between June 2021 and November 2022. The control group included 50 age-matched healthy blood donors. The ANCA profile was assessed using the indirect immunofluorescence assay method with the EUROPLUS Granulocyte Mosaic EUROPattern test kit (EUROIMMUN, Germany) on sera samples of the patient and control groups. Results: Perinuclear ANCA (p-ANCA) was detected in 12 of 200 COVID-19 patients (6.0%) and cytoplasmic ANCA (c-ANCA) was detected in 15 of 200 patients (7.5%). No ANCA positivity was observed in the control group (0/50). ANCA positivity among COVID-19 patients (27 of 200, 13.5%) was statistically significantly higher than in the control group (p<0.05). ANCA positivity was significantly higher in intensive care unit (ICU) patients (21 of 77, 27.3%) compared to non-ICU patients (6 of 123, 4.9%) (p<0.05). The use of natural and easily available materials in nanoparticle synthesis is preferable for economic reasons. Plants are extremely suitable for the synthesis of nanoparticles due to their wide availability and the large number of components they contain with various properties. For this purpose, silver nanoparticles and zinc nanoparticles (AgNPs and ZnNPs), two different nanoparticles were synthesized from an edible plant, watercress (Nasturtium officinale). Scanning electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy -energy dispersive X-ray, UV-VIS spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer (FTIR) analyses of these nanoparticles were performed. In addition, the antimicrobial effects of these synthesized nanoparticles were determined using the disk diffusion method. The nanoparticles obtained from Nasturtium officinale were effective on Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa), Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes), and fungi (Candida albicans). In particular, AgNPs with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity were obtained from the watercress. While ZnNPs showed inhibition effects of 49% on K. pneumoniae, 51% on S. aureus, and 62% on C. albicans, AgNPs showed inhibition effects of 93% on P. aeruginosa, 87% on S. aureus, 81% on E. coli, 80% on C. albicans, 72% on K. pneumoniae, and 56% on S. pyogenes. Mardin Artuklu University / Mardin Artuklu ÜniversitesiThis study is an adaptation of ammonia cascade cooling systems using carbon dioxide on ice cream production machines and includes thermodynamic analysis of R717/R744 cascade refrigeration system with R717 refrigerant single-stage refrigeration system and investigation of its efficiency. As a result of the analyses, the COP value of the single-stage system was 3.67, the Carnot efficiency was 0.57, the second law efficiency was 0.19 and the power required to operate the compressor was 27.55 kW. In the cascade cooling system, the COP value was 4.46, the Carnot efficiency 0.59 and the compressor power 22.7 kW in the high-temperature part, while the COP value was measured as 14.65, the Carnot efficiency 0.58 and the compressor power 6.4 kW in the low-temperature part. For the whole cascade system, the COP 3.24 and the second law efficiency were found to be 0.43. During Botta's studies in the Mosul area, a resident of the village of Khorsabad mentioned reliefs and inscriptions on top of a hill. Botta dispatched a group of workmen to Khorsabad on March 20, 1843, after three months of arduous work in Kuyunjik. However, problems began to arise shortly after his work in Mosul. Particularly Mehmed Pasha in the province creates various obstacles. In this context, we searched the Ottoman Archives to learn more about Botta's excavation permits and documents, the obstacles created by the Pasha of Mosul, and the details, background, and correspondence of Botta's story in Khorsabad. We came across many documents, which included details as to the problems Botta experienced in Khorsabad, the conditions about the excavation permit and the construction of the excavation house, the plan of the excavation house mentioned by Botta, which was shown to be like a castle next to the village houses and sent to Istanbul, and the petitions of the villagers against Botta's research and the excavation house. In this article, we tried to understand how this period was understood and handled by re-reading Botta's excavation periods, permit documents, and the problems he encountered through the available documents.
